Sheriff’s Kick Off Toy Drive With Holiday Spirit

Princess, Power Honda make big donations to SCV causes

[view:node_ad=5]Santa made a special appearance Tuesday night at Power Honda to help the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department jumpstart their holiday toy drive.

Unwrapped toys were collected at the door as the public made their way into the dealership, where holiday treats and festive choral performances offered a bit of pizzazz to the charity drive.

The Sheriff’s department conducts the toy drive every holiday season, which consists of collecting unwrapped gifts from now through December 12th. After that, the toys will be distributed in a shop-like setting to low income Santa Clarita families.

”It’s just remarkable how this community comes together. I’ve been told how many gifts they’re able to accumulate every year and what they’re able to give back to the community and I’m just blown away,” commented Sheriff’s Captain Anthony LaBerge.

Choirs from Sulphur Springs Elementary, as well as Hart, West Ranch and Saugus High Schools gave rousing performances to the audience members.

Princess Cruises also gave the drive a shot in the arm by presenting a $4,000 check to the Sheriff’s department toy drive. Princess Cruises representative Julie Benson told KHTS that the money was raised by employees of the company, who ran their own fundraiser.

Now, deputies will be busy rounding up the toys from various drop off locations like Power Honda, the SCV Sheriff’s Station, and the KHTS Resource Station in the Westfield Valencia Town Center. The public is encouraged to drop off toys to those locations by December 12th, so long as they are unwrapped, and have a value of at least $15.

Another donation also made the holiday celebration special. Power Honda presented the American Red Cross with a check for $3,300. That money was raised after Power Honda’s General Manager set aside $100 for every car sold over a specific weekend. The money was donated to the Santa Clarita Chapter of the Red Cross, and will benefit local victims of October’s wildfires.
