Sheriff’s Put Out The Tip Jar

“Tip A Hero” tomorrow night to benefit Special Olympics.
The City of Santa Clarita, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and the Santa Clarita Valley Special Olympics organization will jointly host a “Tip-A-Hero” dinner Thursday night, March 6, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. at the Elephant Bar Restaurant on McBean Parkway.

Deputies from Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station will take a break from protecting and try their hand at serving the community in a different way, all to help a great cause.  The deputies will become waiters and waitresses for their special fund-raising event and patrons will be given the opportunity to leave a “tip” for the deputy serving their table. The deputies "tips" will then donated directly back to the Santa Clarita Valley Special Olympics Program to assist the organization in offering athletic training and competition to individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The funds raised help the local Special Olympics offer 15 different sports that include basketball, bowling, floor hockey, softball, volleyball and more. There are over 400 special athletes who participate in the program and hundreds of volunteer coaches.

When all the tables were cleared last year and the supporters had left the establishment, Sheriff’s Deputies had raised $2,000 to contribute to the Special Olympics Program.  According to Deputy Artie Thompson, they hope to top that this year.

To help them reach their goal this year, come tomorrow night and see your Santa Clarita Valley Sheriffs in a different environment and let them wait on you!
