Gareth Carrillo, 22, of Canyon Country, was killed when he and his motorcycle collided with another vehicle in the Canyon Country Walmart parking lot, according to Sgt. Richard Cohen of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“He was riding motorcycle on private property and went to pass a vehicle on left side that was in front of him,” Cohen said. “The vehicle turned down one of the aisles, he saw the impending collision, laid the bike down. As he and the bike were skidding, they collided with the vehicle.”

Cohen said Carrillo had major head injuries and was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital where hospital staff performed surgery before he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that collided with Carrillo was unharmed.

“We are trying to raise fund to help with funeral costs. We loved him very much and he will be greatly missed,” said a post to the Gofundme page created by Carrillo’s father, Miguel Carrillo.

The Carrillo family did not immediately respond to requests for a statement.

Sheriff’s Station officials are continuing to investigate the collision, Cohen said.

The collision prompted Sheriff’s Station officials to cordon off a portion of the Walmart parking lot as they investigated the scene.
