Sheriff’s Station Deputies Release Weekly Crime Reports For 08/19-08/25

Labor Day Weekend is upon us, and leading up to it was a busy week for Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies, with two homicide investigations among other crimes.

Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau are investigating a dead body that was found in Gorman on Wednesday. The body has not yet been identified.

California Highway Patrol officers arrested a DUI suspect with an outstanding warrant after he drove through closed construction lanes on Interstate 5 on Wednesday and led officers on a high speed chase into Castaic.

All lanes of the eastbound 210 freeway were shut down for hours Thursday morning as investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department looked into the death of a woman who was pushed, fell or jumped out of a car.

A 15 to 20-year-old man broke into the Canyon Country home of a reserve police officer with the Baldwin Park Police Department, while the officer was at home Thursday night. The victim fired one round from a handgun, and the suspect fled. Two purses were stolen and the suspect is still at large.

Only one suspect with ties to the Santa Clarita Valley appeared in court this week.

Laura Purviance, 24, of Woodland Hills, who is accused of fatally shooting her mother at her mother’s home, will be back in court next month after her case was delayed again on Wednesday. Her mother, Carol Purviance was a special education teaching assistant for the William S. Hart Union High School District.

Below are reports from the different Sheriff zone’s throughout the SCV.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station divides its coverage into five zones for the Nixle reports. They are listed below alphabetical order.

Here’s a summary of incidents that took place in the last week in Santa Clarita (If your zone isn’t listed, keep checking back for updates).

The deputy zone leader for Valencia is on a medical leave, and expected to be back within several weeks, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.

The crime trends are still being analyzed for that area, and law enforcement resources are being adjusted accordingly.

Canyon Country east

Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Canyon Country East:

(1) Aggravated Assault, (6) Residential Burglaries, (14) Vehicle Burglaries, (1) Grand Theft, (1) Petty Theft, (1) Arson and (1) GTA.

An aggravated assault occurred near Palamino Place and Sand Cyn Road. The suspect was upset with his step daughter and wife so he pointed a loaded shotgun at the step daughter’s head. The shotgun was wrestled away from the suspect by the victim’s mother. The suspect was under the influence of alcohol and was arrested by Santa Clarita deputies. The loaded shotgun was recovered and booked into evidence.

An arson occurred near the 14000 block of Soledad Cyn Rd. A semi-truck had its fuel tank slashed open and set on fire. The truck was a total loss and Arson investigators are handling the investigation.

Several vehicle burglaries occurred in the Jakes Way area. The suspect(s) entered multiple vehicles by breaking the front passenger windows and entering the vehicles. The vehicles were ransacked and electronics were taken. Residential burglaries also occurred in the same area. The suspects entered into the victim’s garages and stole items from the vehicles parked inside. Please be vigilant when parking your vehicle. Do not leave valuable items in plain view or in your vehicle. This makes your vehicle a prime target for thieves.

A grand theft auto (GTA) was reported at the “Vons” parking lot on Soledad Cyn Rd. The victim met the suspect from an online car sales ad. The victim exited his vehicle so the suspect could test drive the car. When the suspect got into the driver’s seat he drove way without the victim in the vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered by CHP in Ventura.

Canyon Country west

This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred:

(1) Robbery, (3) Residential Burglaries, (3) Commercial Burglaries, (2) Vehicle Burglaries, (2) Thefts From Unlocked Vehicles, (1) Shoplift, (1) Grand Theft, (1) Petty Theft and (1) GTA.

A strong arm robbery occurred near the intersection of Whites Canyon Road and Stillmore Street. While waiting at a bus stop, the victim was approached from behind by a male suspect who attempted to take her Tablet. After a short struggle, the suspect was able to take the Tablet from the victim and then fled the location.

A residential burglary occurred near the 19700 block of Green Mountain Drive. An unknown suspect shattered a window to the rear door of the residence and entered, taking miscellaneous jewelry and electronic items.

A residential burglary occurred near the 26700 block of Isabella Parkway. An unknown suspect pried open the front door to the residence, in order to gain entry. The suspect took several pieces of jewelry and a firearm.

A commercial burglary occurred near the 26600 block of May Way. Several male suspects broke into a janitorial closet and took several boxes of light bulbs, as well as several boxes of paper towels and toilet paper.

A commercial burglary occurred near the 18600 block of Via Princessa. The victim’s storage locker was broken into and several electronic items and pieces of jewelry were taken.

A petty theft from a vehicle occurred near the 19300 block of Stillmore Street. An unknown suspect took the tailgate door which was attached to the rear of the victim’s truck.

A GTA occurred near the intersection of Golden Valley Road and the 14 Freeway. A 1986 Toyota ½ ton pickup truck was taken from a parking lot near the location. The vehicle was recovered approximately four days later.

Saugus

This week in Zone-4 Saugus, we only had two reported Part-1 Crimes.

There was a petty theft in the 22600 block of Garzota Drive late Monday night, Aug. 18, into early Tuesday morning, Aug. 19. The victim left his bike outside the apartment’s front door at 11 p.m. He said that when he was going to leave at 12:20 a.m. he discovered it was missing. Deputies are attempting to locate the missing bike.

There was a shoplift burglary from a liquor store in the 27600 block of Bouquet Canyon Road on Monday, Aug. 19. A juvenile stole alcohol from the location and was later found in possession of the items at school. The juvenile was arrested without incident.

There were multiple arrests made over the last week. There were arrests for assault, narcotics, burglary, and DUI.
