Sheriff’s Station To Recognize Volunteers

Many give up their time to aid in the safety of Santa Clarita.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Booster Club will host a luncheon to honor the volunteers of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station. These volunteers tirelessly and selflessly give their time, day in and day out, all year long to help the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.

John Price, President of the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Booster Club; Anthony La Berge, Captain of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station and Cathy Stapleton, Assistant Director of the Community Law Enforcement Partnership Program will attend the event and recognize the volunteers countless accomplishments.

Station volunteers include sheriff explorers, patrol reserves, posse members, search and rescue and station clerical staff, just to name a few. Some of the volunteers individually dedicated more than 1,100 hours of their own time throughout the year, many times performing the same functions as full-time paid personnel.

The group of 189 volunteers to be recognized on Saturday dedicated more than 35,000 hours of volunteer service and saved the County of Los Angeles and the City of Santa Clarita more than $650,000 in 2006 alone. National Volunteer Recognition Week of April 22-28th has adopted the theme "Inspire by Example" as an apropos way to describe the volunteers’ service.

"They deserve our recognition and appreciation every day, but this event offers us the opportunity to formally express our gratitude," said Captain La Berge. He added, "All station personnel are encouraged to take a moment and give the volunteers a BIG 'Thank You' when they see them this week!"

What is truly remarkable is that many of the volunteers have full time jobs, or have already completed entire careers in other fields.
