A white Honda with two occupants that allegedly shot a Canyon Country man around midnight Tuesday disappeared into the night, leaving residents concerned about their safety in the normally peaceful Skyblue neighborhood at the top of Whites Canyon Road.

The 22-year old victim told deputies he was talking on a cell phone and walking on the sidewalk in the 19700 block of Merryhill Drive when the Honda pulled to the curb and two black men inside the car asked him for directions. After he responded, he said they shot him, hitting him in the shoulder.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were not life-threatening.

Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station said that they do not believe the shooting is gang-related.
