Deputies search a dozen locations, arrest one suspect, one still at large.
Sheriff's deputies arrested a suspect Thursday morning in connection with a January 8 driveby shooting on Whites Canyon Road and Lone Rock Street. Deputies determined the shooting was gang-related.
Daniel Gonzalez, 20, of Alpine, California was booked at the Santa Clarita station on a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon and is being held in lieu of 53,500 bail. Deputies also recovered the vehicle used in the shooting. A second suspect in the shooting has been identified as Pablo Blanco, 19, a male Hispanic. He is still outstanding and has a last known address on Delight Street in Canyon Country.
Detectives are still investigating and have not yet determined if these suspects have any connection to any of the other recent shooting incidents.
Today's arrests were the result of several months of investigation and the execution of 10 search warrants in Canyon Country as well as two in San Bernardino and Northern San Diego counties. One of this morning's warrants led to other information and resulted in a separate warrant which was served in the Westlake Village area.
The arrest involved resources from the County of Los Angeles, including the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) -Community Impact Team (CIT); Operation Safe Streets (OSS) and Gang Enforcement Team (GET), assigned to the Lancaster and Palmdale Sheriff's Station areas; detectives from the Sheriff Department's Narcotics Bureau and Narcotics K-9 Detail; a gun detection dog from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Transit Services Bureau; officers from the Los Angeles County Probation Department; and representatives from the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) descended upon the Santa Clarita Valley area to assist in the operation.
Unrelated to the gang suppression operation, deputies also uncovered a substantial counterfeiting operation at one of the locations. That investigation is being handled by Federal authorities.
