Three tents have been set up outside of the Best Buy as of Tuesday morning for the annual day-after-Thanksgiving tradition.
Best Buy, located at 26531 Bouquet Canyon Road, is set to open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday this year.
Tickets are passed out to those waiting in line for door buster sales for items such as televisions, movies and video game consoles, Jonny Morita, asset protection associate at Best Buy, said.
“Some guy last year bought one hundred DVD’s,” Morita said.
The Valdez family, consisting of 19 people, are the first in line at the store. They got in line on Saturday morning, six days before Black Friday.
“We do Best Buy Black Friday every year, it’s kind of become more of a family tradition,” said Jessica Valdez. “My dad started it eight or nine years ago when Circuit City was still around. We just kind of moved from store to store, we’ve been doing this store for like four or five years.”
However, Black Friday is more than just bargains for the Valdez family.
“Every night our whole family is here, we’ll play board games, we play cards together, it’s fun,” Jessica Valdez said. “A lot of people see it as a really bad thing. On Sunday, my 75-year-old grandpa was here and we were playing cards for three hours. If you’re at home, you don’t typically do that. It’s really nice family time for us.”
The Valdez family has arrived to Best Buy earlier and earlier each year, she said. Last year, the family arrived on Sunday, five days before Black Friday, and were second in line.
Even though the family will be camped out in front of Best Buy for days before Black Friday, Jessica Valdez says employees have been friendly.
“We know the manager because we’ve been doing this for so long, like five years, at this location,” she said. “The staff is really friendly, they think we’re crazy but they’re still really nice about it.”
