Slain Deputy’s Father To Speak At Law Appreciation Luncheon

scales_of_justiceThe Santa Clarita Valley Bar Association will host its Seventh Annual Law Appreciation Day on Friday, October 7 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Valencia on Town Center Drive.

The annual luncheon, which is the largest event presented by the SCV Bar Association each year, is a celebration of those dedicated to the creation, enforcement and practice of the law.

The Association will recognize local law enforcement and first responders, including members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles County Fire Department, and Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, for their outstanding contributions to the Santa Clarita community.

In addition, the Association is proud to have SCV resident John March as its featured speaker.  In 2002, Mr. March’s son, David March, a Sheriff’s Deputy, was murdered in the line of duty by a known gang member, who immediately fled to Mexico.  Mr. March, in conjunction with local and national officials, then began a five-year struggle for the extradition of his son’s killer to face justice in the United States.

“This community is built upon the strength and hard work of its residents and public servants. Many of those individuals go above and beyond the call of duty, and deserve to be recognized for their outstanding contributions,” says SCV Bar Association President Paulette Gharibian.

Invited guests include Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, Supervisor Michael Antonovich, Superior Court Judge Graciela Freixas, City of Santa Clarita Mayor Marsha McLean, City Attorney Joseph Montes, representatives from the offices of U.S. Congressman Howard “Buck” McKeon, Senators Sharon Runner and Tony Strickland, and Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, along with members of the Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The event is open to the public and tickets are $65.00 per person. For more information about this event, event-sponsorship opportunities, or to purchase tickets, please contact Samuel Price at (661) 290-2991
