A CHP welfare check leads to much more than waking up a driver.
[view:node_ad=5]A drunk driving arrest led to the discovery of an illegal drug enterprise and the seizure of more than 120 grams of hashish and $20,000 worth of marijuana novelties.
Jay Thomas Gilliland of Palmdale was arrested Monday afternoon by the CHP when he was found asleep in his car on Soledad Canyon Road just west of the Antelope Valley freeway.
In his car, officers found cordials, lollypops, cookies, lozenges, pills and small containers of concentrated marijuana, along with business cards and paperwork related to wholesale and retail pricing. Additional manufacturing tools and equipment and additional consumer-ready products were found during a subsequent search warrant executed at a Palmdale storage facility.
Gilliland is being held on $20,000 bail and is due in court tomorrow.
