UPDATED 4:25 p.m. Firefighters have declared knockdown on a small brush fire that burned approximately one acre in Newhall

Southbound lanes of the 14 freeway are congested due to the closure needed to put out the fire on the 14 just south of Newhall Avenue.

The fire may have been started as a vehicle fire and was reported south of Newhall Avenue.

A caller told the CHP that it started after a passenger in a white van threw something, possibly a lighted cigarette, out the window onto the shoulder of the road.
