The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West will
present a free concert at 7:30 p.m
on Monday, February 23, at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College
of the Canyons.
The concert will focus on a variety of styles, from traditional band repertoire,
patriotic music and marches. This tour features clarinet soloist, Master
Sergeant Frank Milicia, playing a musical piece based on themes from Verdi’s
opera Rigoletto, accompanied by the 45-piece band. Two vocalists, Staff
Sergeant Niko Ellison and Senior Airman Pamela MacKenzie, are also featured on
songs that celebrate America’s
musical heritage.
The band will be conducted by its new commander, Major Keith Bland, in his
Santa Clarita debut.
The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West is stationed at Travis Air
Force Base in Northern California. As the only remaining
active duty Air Force band west of the Rockies, its geographic area of
responsibility includes Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho and California.
The Band of the Golden West has performed for gubernatorial
inaugurations and presidential visits, with guest artists such as Toni
Tennille, Marvin Stamm, Bob Hope, and the Boston Brass.
They have performed at Oakland Athletics, San Francisco
Giants, Oakland Raiders, and San
Francisco 49ers games. The band has been seen and
heard by millions in performances throughout its touring region and on radio
and television.
