Soccer Players Invited To Help One Of Their Own

khts_inthecommunityThe soccer community is coming together to help the family of one of its players.

The valley was rocked on the Fourth of July by the tragic death of Matilde Garnica, mother of three, and resident of Santa Clarita. Her 13-year-old son was seriously hurt in the accident. Matilde was also part of the youth sports community. Her son Josh, 12, plays with the Santa Clarita Valley Magic Soccer Club.

The Magic club, with the cooperation of the City of Santa Clarita’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, will be holding a “Pick-Up Soccer” fundraiser for the Garnica Family this Wednesday, July 21, from 10:00 a.m.-noon at Central Park on fields 5-7. This event will be for soccer players and athletes of all ages, and all abilities.

The idea is simple. Show up in soccer gear, and play “coach-free” soccer. Fields will be set up in different sizes, from small-sided to full 11v11 size. Players will be placed in a game, and sent off to have fun, all the while serving a worthwhile cause. You can also bring a group and play together if you would like.

Cost for the event is $10.00 per player, and checks can be made out to SCVSC Garnica Family Fund. If you have an interest in playing, or would like to help, please contact Joel Govea. He can be reached at joel@rightstartsoccer.com.

Walk-ups are welcome, but RSVP’s would be appreciated so we can accommodate everyone in a timely manner. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. ALL proceeds will go to the SCVSC Garnica Family Fund.
