A solar eclipse gathered eager community members outside Santa Clarita’s Old Town Newhall Library for free safety glasses and workshops Friday.

Santa Clarita Public Library officials joined in on the solar eclipse craze that saw hundreds lined up around the library to receive the essential safety glasses. A viewing party is also being planned for Monday at the Newhall library.

The upcoming total solar eclipse is expected Monday, August 21, from approximately 10-11 a.m., when all of North America should be able to see this unique eclipse of the sun, occurring for the first time in almost 40 years.

NASA points out that this eclipse will be a “total solar eclipse” because the moon will completely cover the sun.
If you missed the safety glasses giveaway, a free viewing event will also be hosted on Monday, August 21, 2017 from 10-11 a.m. at the Old Town Newhall Library Community Room.
