Local Boy Scout collects shoes for Haiti earthquake victims

It was only two weeks ago that Haiti faced the catastrophic 7.0 earthquake.  In response to this natural disaster, many men, women, and children around the globe have donated gifts, money, and services to aid the impacted Haitians.

Searching for a way that that he could make a difference, local Boy Scout Andrew Aubrey has contacted Santa Clarita residents and organizations asking for donations of shoes to send to the Soles4Souls Foundation, a charity that distributes shoes to needy families around the world.

Over the past few weeks, 15 year-old Aubrey has partnered with the community to set up donation boxes in hopes of collecting 2,000 pairs of shoes.

“I have great faith that in the midst of everything that is going wrong in our society, we as a community can come together to help those people in need,” Aubrey stated.

“I have gained a new sense of the true giving sprit from everyone’s giving of their time,” Aubrey explained.

Aubrey invites Santa Clarita residents to meet him at the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Saugus this Saturday to finish collecting and transporting the donations.  The collected shoes will be taken to Sport Chalet in Stevenson Ranch, which will ship them to Haiti.
