Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita will be holding a special event at the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center to benefit recently diagnosed breast cancer patients.
More than 30 members of Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita will arrive at the center on Friday, June 25, with 35 bags filled to the brim with items that will provide comfort and relief for these recently diagnosed women.
“This project is one that lies closest to my heart.” said Donna M. Kreutz, breast cancer survivor and President of the Soroptimist Club of Santa Clarita, “When I had breast cancer, I had a great support system, but not everyone is as lucky. Many cancer victims experience confusion or fear and this program is a beautiful way to help women grow stronger.”
Members of the local Soroptimist International gathered donated items like books, pens, pillows, and throws to include into the light pink Beijo Bags, which were provided by the founder of the Beijo Bag, Susan Handley.
One of the most sentimental items that can be found inside these bags is a hand written letter to each diagnosed breast cancer patient. The letters are written by a Soroptimist International member, who in many cases is a person who has had a personal experience with breast cancer, to offer reassurance to another breast cancer victim.
Soroptimist International, founded in 1919, is a worldwide organization that works to inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls through a global network of members and international partnerships.
