The Santa Clarita Artists’ Association prepares for featured speaker.
The May 19, 2008 meeting of Santa Clarita Artists' Association (SCAA) will feature John Paul Thornton who will talk about the "8 edges" and then will demonstrate portraiture in oil.
John Paul Thornton's "Peace Prints" Project, created in conjunction with the Natural World Museum and Full Circle Learning for the United Nations Environmental Programme, was displayed at the Nobel Peace Prize Center in Oslo, Norway during the 2007 World Environmental Summit. Public exhibitions of his "Painting of Hope" project featuring hundreds of portraits depicting America's missing children have been held on the National Mall, at the White House and the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. John Paul has received honors from the California State Senate, The United States Congress and CBS television for his work linking art with social causes.

The May plein air paint out will be on Saturday, May 24th, at 9 a.m. – 12 noon (At 12 there will be have an informal “show and tell” of the mornings efforts.) Placerita Nature Center is located at 19152 Placerita Canyon Road, Newhall, 91321. For park details go to www.placerita.org. With the spring blossoms, also come rattlers, ticks and Poison Oak. So set up where you are safe. The center is so beautiful you can actually paint from the parking lot. The park is open at sunrise; early birds can catch the first light. On April 21, Gerald Brommer, master watercolorist and author/editor of over 35 art books, demonstrated before a packed room of attentive artists. Jerry has taught for many years, is a jurist, and has created twelve instructional video tapes, including "Watercolor in Action-Responding to Nature" & "Exploring Watercolor-from Location to Studio". Monthly meetings of the SCAA are both informative and inspirational. Non-members are also welcomed and may attend their first meeting for free.
