Special Olympics Asks For Volunteers

They're calling on the public for help.

The Special Olympics is currently seeking over 150 volunteers to assist on Saturday, May 19 for the Annual Spirit Games Competition, with a preference for the afternoon shift.

This annual event hosts over 1,000 athletes from throughout Southern California and needs over 550 volunteers in order to accommodate all of the sports venue and athletes that will take part.

Currently, over 400 community volunteers will give at least four hours of their time to our local Special Olympics athletes.

Athletes will be competing in Basketball, Bocce, Swimming, Tennis and Track and Field.  Sports venues include Hart High School, Placerita Junior High School, Newhall Boy's and Girl's Club, Santa Clarita Aquatics Center and Newhall Park.

Anyone is welcome to volunteer.  Whether you are an individual, family, community group, school group, sports team or church group, Special Olympics needs your help and will put you to work.  All efforts will be made to keep groups at the same location, if requested.

If you are interested in volunteering for Spirit Games, please contact Scott Jordan at (661) 253-2121 or via email at sjordan@sosc.org
