SoundOfMusicIf a summer vacation in the Alps is on your bucket list, this might be just the thing for you: Auditions are being held Saturday and Sunday for the Santa Clarita Regional Theatre production of “The Sound Of Music” with performances beginning July 21.

The SCRT, a division of the Canyon Theatre Guild, is presenting the Rodgers and Hammerstein favorite at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons and all auditions are open. Auditions will be held in the white building at the Canyon Theatre Guild, 24242 Main Street in Old Town Newhall.

On Saturday (May 5), auditions will be held for children (up to age 18) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adults will audition between 2 and 4 p.m. On Sunday (May 6), from noon to 2, adult auditions will continue.

Those auditioning should be prepared to sing 16 bars of a Broadway show tune (or a selection from a Disney musical) with their own accompaniment track. No accompanist is provided and there will be no a capella auditions. Dress appropriately for a short dance audition, with suitable shoes. Actors will also be asked to read a short paragraph from the show.

Rehearsals will begin as soon as casting is completed and will be held on weeknights. Performances will be at the Performing Arts Center at COC. Performance dates are July 21, 22, 28, 29, August 4, 5, 11 and 12.
