Officials with the Southland Regional Association of Realtors recently gave about $6,000 to the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry, according to the group’s president.
Two events were part of the effort, said Erika Kauzlarich-Bird, president of the SRAR.
“The first one was a golf tournament in August at TPC, and the funds from that golf tournament went to the Housing Affordability Fund,” she said, describing a local effort to help first-time homeowners.
“They have to go through an application process and they can qualify for a grant,” she said.
The other project funded was a renovation of Placerita Canyon Park, which received a few campsite makeovers thanks to Coby Vincent, a Boy Scout who led the effort, and Marty Kovacs, an SRAR council member who volunteered to help. The cleanup included re-painted benches and a few other touch-ups that came out to around $800, Kauzlarich-Bird said.
“We felt that that was important to fund his entire project because the community means a lot to us,” Kauzlarich-Bird said. “Because preserving this community is important to future homeowners.”
