Many consider Ronald Reagan to be one of our great modern presidents. State Senator George Runner introduced the legislation, Senate Bill 944, which would make February 6, Ronald Reagan Day.
The legislation has passed the State Senate and will now go to the State Assembly.
If passed, schools and educational institutions would be encouraged to observe the day and have educational exercises recognizing his accomplishments and familiarizing students with the contributions he made to our state.
There are currently four other such state special days including: Harvey Milk Day on May 22, John Muir Day on April 21, California Poppy Day on April 6, and Day of the Teacher on the second Wednesday in May.
