The Santa Clarita Valley Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes is set for Saturday, October 15 and Team Patrick is just one of the groups hoping to raise money for the event. According to Lori Blumenthal, manager of the American Diabetes Association’s local office, over 1.9 million new adults cases of diabetes were diagnosed last year.
On Tuesday, Chi-Chi’s Pizza donated 15 percent of their sales to Team Patrick, a 9-year old boy who wants to raise both funds and awareness.

Participants in Step Out register and recruit co-workers, friends and family members to help them with the walk and fundraising. The day of the event is a party to celebrate their fundraising accomplishments of the teams and individuals as well as an opportunity to promote awareness about diabetes.
More than 1,000 walkers are expected to turn out for Step Out at Bridgeport Park, where they will walk a 4.5 mile course that winds along the river trails of Valencia and the scenic path near Bridgeport Lake. There will be water stops for walkers and those finishing the walk will be given a “heroes welcome” at the finish line, where there will be live entertainment, product sampling and other activities.
The Santa Clarita Step Out walk is one of 144 going on across the country. Registration for the walk begins at 8 a.m. with the walk beginning at 9. Bridgeport Park is located on Newhall Ranch Road at Grandview Drive in Valencia. For more information, click here.
