A flag flying upside down is a sign of distress.

A neon beer sign, broken and hanging upside down, must mean Armageddon.

A middle-aged woman was attempting to stop in front of the Oak Tree Liquor store at the corner of Langside and Soledad Canyon Road around 10:30 this morning when apparently her brakes failed and her SUV jumped into the front of the establishment, breaking the glass and demolishing two beer signs hanging inside the front window.

Store manager Alex Rabadi and an employee sweep up broken glass from the damaged storefront.

An ice cream cooler was pushed forward into the store, and the front window, window frame and associated hardware will have to be replaced, but no employees were injured and the building’s structure was not damaged.

Sheriff’s deputies took a report, but the woman was not cited.
