Storms Bring Snow and Business to the SCV

The recent Southern California storms have not been all doom and gloom with rain, flooding, and closed roads, although SCV residents have had to deal with at least one of the above….

Because of the closure of the Golden State Freeway through the Grapevine over New Years’ weekend, many Castaic eateries and hotels got huge jumps in business as stranded travellers spent the night.

In the first five days of ’05, the Newhall reporting station has already received 1.95 inches of rain.  The snow level has dropped as low as 2500 feet, covering mountains on the outskirts of the Santa Clarita Valley which hardly ever see white covering.

Wednesday brings a respite from the rain, but the next batch is expected early Thursday and into Friday.
