Summit to Bring Together Students-Teens to Learn About Outlets for Stress

The City of Santa Clarita’s annual Youth Summit will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at the brand new Community Center in Newhall. The program will run from 9:00 am to 2:15 pm. The Community Center is located at 22421 Market Street in Downtown Newhall. Over 100 high school students from throughout William S. Hart High School District are expected to be in attendance at the Summit, this year themed “Breaking Point: Outlets for Stress.” The goal of the program is to bring together local students to discuss current issues facing teenagers. Participants will have the opportunity to attend three separate breakout sessions concerning topics such as time management, peer pressure, academic pressure, and relationship issues. This year’s Youth Summit keynote speaker will be Jeff Yalden. Yalden is well known as a teen life coach on the MTV series “Made,” and speaks throughout the country on a variety of teen-related issues. His keynote address this year, “Take Time to Think,” will help give youth the tools to deal with the stresses that they face on a day-to-day basis. “We look forward to providing our youth with an opportunity to come together, meet new people, and discuss issues prevalent to today’s students,” says Adele Macpherson, Community Services Superintendent. “The Youth Summit is a great way for students to come together, not only to listen to speakers, but to share their own experiences and get peer feedback.” Transportation for students registered to attend the Youth Summit will be provided from their schools.
