Suspect Killed Dog In Jeep, Detectives On Klein Case Say

Klein_DusanHomicide investigators working the case of Renata Klein, the Canyon Country woman who went missing along with her husband, Dusan, and their dog, Cindy, told KHTS that blood found in the couple’s vehicle appears to be canine and they believe that someone killed the dog.


Renata and Dusan Klein disappeared from their Wildwind Canyon home on June 12. Renata’s body was found along Big Tujunga Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest three days later.

Coroner spokesman Ed Winter told KHTS that the cause of death was asphyxiation, the method homicide.

Dusan Klein was named a person of interest in his wife’s murder, but there has not been a sign of him or the dog until the bloodied back seat. Dusan Klein is still at large.

Homidice Detective Quilmes Rodriguez said that the Jeep was found in a North Las Vegas business district, with the keys inside, behind an abandoned Mexican-themed bar. He said that the vehicle had been there for two weeks.

The Jeep was transported back to Los Angeles County, where it is being examined by forensic experts.

“Blood in the back seat appears to be the dog’s,” Rodriguez said. “It was tested and the suspect appears to have killed the dog.”

Dusan Klein is described as having a very thick Czechoslovakian accent; he is a Caucasian male, 6 feet, 2 inches in height, weighing 190 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information regarding the case is encouraged to call Homicide at (323) 890-5500.
