A suspected parolee eluded capture Friday morning near Canyon Springs Elementary School in Canyon Country, causing a lockdown on the campus.
Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station said that deputies recognized a man who they thought might be selling drugs in the area near the school and attempted to talk with him.

The man bolted, running away from the school and jumped over some fences in the neighborhood. Deputies set up a containment in the area, but they did not find the suspect.
The lockdown was lifted at the school shortly before 10 a.m., according to school authorities.
