Suspect Wanted in 2009 Castaic Sexual Assault Arrested in New York

khts_crime_genericEugene Lee Upshaw, a named suspect in a brutal 2009 sexual assault in Castaic, was arrested in upstate New York Thursday night.

Upshaw was arrested by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, New York, who were working with deputy U.S. Marshals partnered with Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Detective Dave Campbell.

“There was no way we were going to let the suspect get away with this. We all knew we would never stop until he faced justice,” Campbell said.

A series of small clues, DNA evidence and Campbell’s skilled detective work helped provide the information needed to locate the suspect. The expertise of deputy U.S. Marshals, and rapid assistance by deputies with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrest of Suspect Upshaw one year and six days after the assault.
