At about 10:30 Friday night, a woman and her two children were the victims of a car-jacking on Sandy Dr. in Canyon Country.
The suspect, later identified as 19 year-old Styles Johnson, reportedly pointed a gun at the driver and forced her and her family out of the car, which he then stole.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies from the Santa Clarita station were alerted to the incident and a Sheriff’s department helicopter began canvassing the area.
A short time later the helicopter spotted the stolen vehicle driving close to 100 mph on the 14 freeway in the Santa Clarita area. The car then crashed near Soledad Canyon Rd., and Johnson attempted to flee on foot.
The Sheriff’s helicopter, however, was able to visually track his movements and he was quickly arrested.
The victim reportedly identified the suspect for deputies.
Investigators later discovered that the weapon used in the alleged car-jacking was a replica gun.
