A 37-year old man is behind bars this morning, suspected of driving under the influence and crashing into a power pole Sunday night.

According to Sgt. Ronald Price of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station, Victor Alvara hit a power pole on Sierra Highway at Placerita Canyon Road around 10:30 p.m. Deputies arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving and booked him at the Santa Clarita Valley station, where is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Alvara is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow; he could also face charges of child endangerment, as he had minor children in the car with him when the crash occurred.

Price said there were no reports of loss of power in the area because of the crash.

On Saturday, a morning traffic accident brought down a power pole at Sierra Highway and Via Princessa, causing massive backups in the area and leaving hundreds of Edison customers without power, some for up to seven hours.
