Taking Sides On Prop 8

Street side demonstration one of the biggest in recent
memory.

[view:node_ad=5]As the November election looms on the horizon, supporters of
Proposition 8 held a rally at one of the cities busiest intersections.

A crowd of approximately 250 people gathered at the
intersection of Bouquet Canyon
and Valencia Boulevard
armed with signs voicing their support of the proposition which could ban gay
marriage in California.

“It was peaceful,” Mary Parks said of the rally.  “A great gathering of those who believe in
marriage between a man and a woman.”

The Proposition, if passed, would change the California
Constitution to define marriage as only between a women and a man.

measure, although they were outnumbered by one of the largest gatherings of
supporters the city has seen.

Dave McEachern, President, Parents, Families and Friends of
Lesbians and Gays, was at the demonstration.

“This valley has been controlled for too long by
fundamentalist churches,” Dave said.
“Its time for ordinary people who value civil rights and want to keep
church and state separate to stand up.”

In recent weeks, large gatherings have been held at the
intersection of McBean Parkway
and Valencia Boulevard in Valencia
as well as Whites Canyon
and Soledad Canyon
roads in Canyon Country.

A recent survey conducted by the Public Policy Institute of
California shows that Proposition 8 is losing by eight percent, which could be
why supporters are upping their presence in the community.
