Santa Clarita locals show their appreciation again and again to local firefighters

The recent fires in the Santa Clarita Valley have made locals realize just how much they have to be thankful for this holiday season.

Although some families weren’t as fortunate as others, they can still have peace of mind that no one lost their lives during the fires of mid October.

Firefighters around California, and particularly in the Santa Clarita Valley, have been thanked again and again by locals. Heaps of thank you cards and food have been repeatedly sent to the fire stations throughout the valley. Many firefighters can’t seem to go out to eat in uniform without someone offering to buy them their meal.

“I’ve never seen such support from a town in 32 years on the fire service,” claims Captain Sotro of Los Angeles County Fire station 156 on Copperhill Road.

Fire crews from all over California and even some out of state were sent to the Santa Clarita Valley and to San Diego to aid in one of the worst fire storms the state of California has ever seen.

The high winds, which reached upwards of 60 miles per hour in Canyon Country and 100 miles per hour on the 5 Freeway, aided the spread of the fires- which was calculated to be around the rate of 50 acres per minute. Over 38,000 acres burned in the Santa Clarita Valley alone.

Everyone in the Santa Clarita Valley has been affected from the aftermath of the firestorm and we all have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season. We’re all thankful to the wonderful men and women dedicated to protecting and serving the beautiful valley we call home.

If you would like to help out this holiday season, firefighters are recommending the American Red Cross or the SCV Disaster Coalition
