[view:node_ad=5]The American Red Cross is looking for Santa Clarita residents to be honored as Hometown Heroes.

The program recognizes those who exemplify the principles and values of the Red Cross and who have consistently shown a gift for human compassion.

Nominees can be anyone from the community, like last years Workplace hero winner Jim Tindell, who risked his life to save the horses of Heads-Up Therapy from the Buckweed Fire.

“Hometown Heroes is an event that celebrates local heroes that do good stuff in Santa Clarita,” said Lt. Mark Hershey co-chair of the Hometown Heroes event.

Heroes can be nominated in 11 different categories:  first responder, youth under 17, adult between 18 and 59, animal, educator, medical, workplace, military, youth sports mentor, senior over 60, and corporate.

The recognition period runs from June 1, 2008 through May 31, 2009, with the nomination deadline at June 15, 2009.

A breakfast to honor the heroes will be held at the Valencia Hyatt on Sept. 11, 2009, with all the proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross emergency response and education services.

The application to nominate a Hometown Hero can be found at www.heroes.hometownstation.com and the completed forms need to be faxed to (661) 255-2040.
