The Art Of Light

carriegordonJulieAnnThe bathroom doesn’t seem like an ideal place to generate inspiration for works of art, but for one up-and-coming artist that’s exactly where that “Ahh-Haa” moment took place.

Canyon Country resident Carrie Gordon was struck by the light patterns that filtered through the blinds and laid to rest on the bathtub.

“Each day that I looked at it I would say, this is art, this is art and nature,” said Gordon.

From there the bathtub took on a new purpose serving as a canvas. Gordon places objects like marbles, flowers, and beads in the shadows and photographs them with her digital camera.

Gordon, who has no formal artistic or photographic training, says she fell into her current path after making a life transition.

That transition, brought on by an emotional hardship, allows her to identify on a personal level with each piece she creates.

One piece called Flight, “was inspired by people starting a new life journey, and that’s something I identify with personally,” said Gordon.

All of the art that is created gets named by Gordon, but often times she doesn’t tell the buyer the name she has given it.Carrie_Gordon_Picture_5_of_5

“When someone looks at art it’s very personal, and people have their own feelings and interpretations of a piece of art,” said Gordon. “I don’t want to sway anyone in one way or another by putting my own meaning on it.”

The journey down this new path began for her two years ago, but she only recently started showcasing her work at events like the Fine Art Show and the Literacy and Arts Festival.

Gordon is also a participant in the Arts Walk in Downtown Newhall, showcasing her work in a building just down from the Repertory East Playhouse.
