Post-fire mudslides a concern for local areas.
After a major wildfire, the burned areas are transformed into baron, dry slices of land. When the rainy season arrives, the lack of vegetation allows water to run unobstructed down hills and can even cause mudslides.
With so many homes affected by the Station Fire, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works has begun offering free engineering advice for homeowners concerned about erosion, mud-flows, and related issues, according to Supervisor Michael Antonovich.
The toll-free hotline is (800) 214-4020 and will be staffed by qualified individuals from the Department of Public Works.
The advice may prove critical this year, as a heavier rainy season may develop.
