The Marvelous Wonderettes Want You To Audition Saturday

wonderettes1Open auditions for “The Marvelous Wonderettes” being presented by the Canyon Theatre Guild will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 12.

Director Greg Finley is looking for four outstanding actresses who can dance and are also dynamite singers for this fun show. They should be able to hold parts singing harmony, read music or be pretty fast learners.

Big pluses are comedy timing, dance training, and fearless vocal expression. Characters include: Betty Jean, a crazy, kooky girl who may behave inappropriately at times; Cindy Lou, a quirky, pseudo phony with a touch of catty meanness; Missy, a real Type A personality… a little nerdy and socially awkward and Suzy, the stereotypical poster child of the ’50s/60s… think Doris Day or Gidget – happy go lucky, and forever optimistic mixed with naiveté.

Songs will be familiar hits from the ’50s and ’60s, including “Lollipop,” “Leader of the Pack,” “It’s My Party,” “Mr Sandman” and more. This ‘juke box musical’ tells the story of four friends, a’la “Forever Plaid’ – with the first act taking place at the girls’ Senior Prom and the second at their 10-year class reunion.

Those auditioning should be prepared to sing 16 bars of their best audition piece and be prepared to cold read and sing harmony. Callbacks will be later Saturday night.

Auditions will be held in the studio building adjacent to the Canyon Theatre Guild at 24242 Main Street, Old Town Newhall.

“The Marvelous Wonderettes” opens July 28 and will be performed weekends through the month of August. For more information, call the CTG box office at  (661) 799-2702.
