Congressman McKeon releases unscripted video to give constituents
an inside look at DC.
the former Hart School Board member, Santa Clarita Mayor and, for the past 16
years he's been the hard nosed congressman representing us in Washington
D.C.
He's gone to bat for local projects, serves as ranking Republican on the
House Committee on Education and Labor, and knows Washington
DC inside and out.
But what about Buck?
Our congressman often goes by the moniker "Buck" in close,
comfortable circles, and yesterday, all of us got a chance to get a glimpse at
that. McKeon's office released a quick (approx 4 min) video of the congressman
in his Washington DC
office, talking to the camera and giving an impromptu tour of the facilities.
What followed was surprisingly intriguing. Buck was loose,
almost as if he was at home in his pajamas. No teleprompters or pre-scripted,
hand-pointing speeches. Just Buck strolling from desk to desk throwing each of
his staff members in front of the camera and cracking a few jokes.
When some of the staff members clammed up and resigned to a
nervous smile and a wave, Buck explained what they do, and how long they've
been with him.
It wasn't much of an effort, just a handheld camera feed
posted on the internet. But those four minutes of tape were able to accomplish
what most Public Relations folks can't do with a hundred photo-ops; It
humanized our congressman. Not only did it remind us that there are real, flesh
and blood people in Washington DC,
but also that he's one of us, a Santa Clarita resident.
Furthermore, Buck and his staff members make several
references on the tape to who we would call if we have varying requests. Want
to tour the capitol? Call Mima, she'll set you up. Want to meet with the
Congressman? Talk to Candace and she'll fit you in.
With the challenges our country is now facing at the federal
level, it is important to know that you can pick up the phone and call the man
who casts our vote.
Bottom line, the video is a refreshing and oddly informative
peek at the operations of our congressman and is well worth a look. To see the video, click here

If you're like me, after viewing the tape you may find
yourself more inclined to reference our congressman as "Buck" rather than the
Honorable Howard P. McKeon.
