The Season Of Diversity Is Here

City launches season full of events and programs to promote cultural understanding

ImageBeginning Saturday, September 29th, the City of Santa Clarita kicks off A Season of Diversity, a program designed to promote cultural understanding in our community. The City’s Human Relations Forum has scheduled a long list of events to support cultural diversity in the community by honoring the rich cultural tapestry of Santa Clarita now through February, 25, 2008.

“The City of Santa Clarita is comprised of a growing diverse community made up of people from different cultures, traditions and beliefs. That’s why it’s so important to promote positive human relations and the acceptance of all people so we can all live and work peacefully with a better understanding of each other and the value of diversity,” commented Mayor Marsha McLean.

A Season of Diversity will feature free events and programs like cultural art galleries, international music and dance, interfaith gatherings, and multi-cultural story times and craft for children.

The Santa Clarita Human Relations Forum was formed in May 1994 after members of the community addressed the Santa Clarita City Council and requested the formation of a task force to promote understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity in City. Its mission is to encourage, assist, and empower the Santa Clarita community to eliminate all forms of discrimination and to promote understanding and appreciation of human differences.

Collaborating agencies for the 2007 Season of Diversity include: Santa Clarita’s Human Relations Forum, County of Los Angeles Public Libraries, College of the Canyons,Friends of the Libraries of the Santa Clarita Valley, Interfaith Council, William S. Hart High School District, and the Gay and Lesbian Association of Santa Clarita.
