The end of 2009 will mark many things for Santa Clarita, not the least of which the 90th year of service for The Signal newspaper.

The paper began distributing news in the Santa Clarita Valley back in 1919, and has carried on ever since, not missing a day.

“The Signal has been, and will continue to be, the newspaper of record for the Santa Clarita Valley,” said Signal Publisher Ian Lamont. “Since 1919, The Signal has chronicled the story of our time and of our valley.”

Lamont went on to say that the staff is prepared to continue the tradition.

“Every day, seven days a week, your Signal will have valued content, features, photos, columns, opinion and valued advertising from local businesses that get the word out about sales, money-saving opportunities and unique products and promotions.”

The pictures included in this article are from a celebration hosted by The Signal in November. Joining Signal staffers that day were representatives from our elected state officials, Los Angeles County, the City of Santa Clarita, and the SCV Chamber of Commerce.

Of course, Lamont promises the biggest party is yet to come.

“Ten years from now, you can bet you will be invited to the biggest party in SCV history when The Signal celebrates its 100th anniversary.”
