The Spirit Of The Theater And Other Fun Holiday Shows

khts_holidayspecialThe theater offers something for every sense, there’s the sights, the sounds, the smell, which you can thank your seated neighbor for, and tastes in the form of refreshments.

Whether those senses are 5-years-old or 85-years-young, live theater has something for everyone, and we have compiled, you guessed it, another list to help you find that special show this holiday season.

If you are looking for an intimate atmosphere to jump onto the bandwagon you don’t have to travel to New York, or even to Hollywood for that matter, just head over to your local community theater.

Take for instance the Canyon Theatre Guild, who are bringing audiences “Miracle on 34th Street” this holiday season.

Local thespian Greg Finley directed the classic tale taken from the Valentine Davies novel.  Word has it from a source imbedded deep within the piece that it is a “charming” play.

The show runs through December 19 playing weekend matinees and evenings.  For ticket and showing information call the box office at (661) 799-2702.

If you’re itching to leave the Santa Clarita Valley to catch a play the Pantages Theater is bringing audiences of all ages: the musical “Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

This play delivers laughs, sing-a-longs and even a surprise or two.  Tickets start at $23 but there is no intermission so make sure you take that bathroom break before the show.  For more information on the show click here.

Ok so you’ve hit the big shows and want to catch some up and coming actors, swing by any of the local junior and high schools this month for a host of different performances.  They’ve got plays, bands, choir performances, and even an orchestra or two, just click here to find out more.

To satisfy your craving for all things holiday don’t forget to check out the Santa Clarita Ballet Company’s holiday chestnut “The Nutcracker.”

These dancers will mesmerize you with their tight choreography but don’t blink because you may miss the show; it only runs December 18-20.  Call the SCBC at (661) 251-6844 for tickets and show times.

Not to be left out of the holiday mind feast is the Santa Clarita Valley Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons.  Keeping with the limited availability theme the first concert starts this Saturday.  The shows move from traditional such as COC students performing in the Winter Spectacular with a student orchestra and symphony, to combinations of styles with their annual Holiday Concert that mash holiday sounds with jazz.  For showtimes and ticket info click here.

The Santa Clarita Master Chorale will also grace the stage of the PAC with the opening of its 10th concert season appropriately titled “Tis the 10th Season,” on December 13.

Not to be confused with the Santa Clarita Master Chorale, the Masters College Department of Music is offering a concert titled “Come Sing Christmas.”  The show will be held in the Master’s College Bross Gymnasium this week only, with tickets starting at $16.  For show times and a seating chart click here.

If you plan on attending this show you may want to break out your boots and cowboy hat.  No, its not the Cowboy Festival come early, but it is cowboys singing carols.

“Cowboys and Carols,” hosted by the Friends of Hart Park and Museum, is a concert and museum package, where guests can tour the Hart Mansion and hear the tunes of the Cross Town Cowboys.

The event starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday and will run you $20, which includes refreshments.  For more information call (661) 254-4584

Well, there you have it.  Hit these fun holiday shows and you too can help support local live entertainment.  You don’t even have to break out the heavy coats or brave the subway like our New York friends.
