Theatre Project To Offer Paid Internships

Two grants lead to new opportunities

[view:node_ad=5]The Theatre Project/SCV, the local not-for-profit organization on a mission to bring Broadway quality live entertainment to the Santa Clarita Valley, is now providing educational opportunities to those who are looking to achieve a career in the performing arts.  Part of the organization’s written vision statement pledges “to develop Educational and Professional Training programs offering classes, workshops and internships.”

This week, The Theatre Project/SCV announced two more partnerships that directly relate to their educational goals.  With a donation of $7,000, Mission View Public Schools has become an “Educational Sponsor” of the upcoming musical production, "The World Goes Round", with all funds earmarked to provide students with paid internship opportunities to perform as part of an eight-member chorus that will support the professional stars in two major productions numbers in the show, which will have four performances, September 20-23, at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons.

In addition, another paid internship program is offering work experience in four positions, one as assistant to the Co-Producing Artistic Directors of The Theatre Project/SCV,  and three in technical areas, assisting Lighting, Set, and Costume design thanks to a $2,500 grant provided by Lou and Rita Garasi.  The selected applicants for these positions will get hands-on experience with the frenetic environment behind the scenes that accompanies any production on its way to opening night.

Those desiring to apply for the either the performance or administrative internship positions must participate in an audition/interview. (Only those applying for performance internships will be asked to perform.)  Audition/interviews are being held this Sunday, August 26 between 1pm-5pm and on Tuesday, August 28 between 7pm-10pm at the Center Pointe location of Hubbadaddy’s Studios Inc. at 26330 Diamond Place, Unit 140, Santa Clarita, CA 91350.

Those electing to sing should prepare 32 bars of a song, and should bring to the audition sheet music in the correct key.  An accompanist will be provided.  All applicants for the administrative internship position should bring a current resume.  All interns must be at least 18 years of age and currently enrolled in college.  All internships will require a four-week commitment, and compensation of $125 per week will be paid to those selected.  For further information, please call The Theatre Project/SCV at 661-633-3550.
