Tip-A-Cop, Polar Plunge, Dodgeball Tournament To Benefit Special Olympics

khts_givingbackFootball season might be coming to a close, but thankfully the Santa Clarita Valley Region for Special Olympics Southern California has the right schedule to keep you busy.

On February 26, at 10:00 a.m. many brave men, women and children will take “the Plunge” into the cold waters of Castaic Lake to raise money, win rewards and have a good time. The goal is to raise $20,000 and all proceeds will benefit the athletes of Santa Clarita and Tri-Valley.

The following month, everyone’s favorite game as a child is coming to West Ranch High School, and it’s open to all. On March 27 at 1 p.m., Special Olympics Santa Clarita will host a competitive dodgeball tournament with teams of 6 to 10 players. Cost is $200 a team, and T-shirts are included. Those wishing to enter between the ages of 16 and 18 require parental consent.

In April, the popular and fun Tip-A-Cop program comes to Claim Jumper in Valencia. If you’ve ever wanted to give orders to a law enforcement official this is your chance. After jotting down what you’d like to eat, officers will interact with your table and pitch you items such as coffee mugs and T-shirts, all to raise money for the organization.

The organization is currently looking for coaches in the following sports: aquatics, athletics, basketball, bocce, golf and gymnastics. If you’re interested in helping someone experience the thrill of sports, send an e-mail to or Also, be sure to state which sport you’d prefer to coach.
