A SigAlert on the onramp to the southbound 14 freeway
at Agua Dulce Canyon Road was set in place due to a tractor-trailer that went over the side at 8:40
a.m. The SigAlert lasted until roughly 3 p.m.  The southbound offramp from the 14 to Agua Dulce Canyon Road was closed until 3:40 p.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol, John E. Rivera, 29, of West Covina was driving his 1196 Peterbuilt tractor/trailer loaded with gravel southbound approaching Agua Dulce Canyon Road, when he exited the freeway at the Agua Dulce Canyon Road offramp at a high rate of speed. His truck rear-ended a 1994 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Joaquin Valdovinos which was on the offramp, knocking the Suburban across Agua Dulce Canyon Road onto the dirt shoulder.

The truck continued across the roadway, colliding with the guardrail west of the Agua Dulce onramp and went over the edge, coming to rest approximately 100 feet down the embankment, spilling a full load of gravel and a significant amount of diesel fuel. Rivera was trapped in the cab of the truck for more than an hour and complained of back pain when he was extricated. He was airlifted to Holy Cross Hospital for treatment. Valdovinos and his passenger, Jonathon Valdovinos, sustained moderate injuries and were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. Both Valdovinos' were wearing their seat belts.

The Office of Emergency Services was notified; the Los Angeles County Health Department, EPA, HazMat and Fish and Game officials responded to the scene to deal with the fuel spilled into the creek.
