Los Angeles County firefighters were dispatched to the single-vehicle crash near Fire Camp 14 at 6:16 p.m., and were on scene 10 minutes later, said Art Marrujo, a dispatch supervisor for the department.

The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed, according to CHP officers who investigated the scene. Officials are not sure why the vehicle veered off the road.

It is not known if the driver of the 2013 Kia was wearing safety equipment due to the extent of the damage to the vehicle from the fire. The crash produced produced a half-acre fire and the spread was stopped at 7:12 p.m., said Marrujo.

Super Scoopers were also dispatched to the scene which is a standard procedure for brush fires, said Marrujo.

The victim has not yet been been identified pending the investigation, according to investigator Lopez from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

The embankment is believed to be around 200 feet, said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Haggard.

No other injuries were reported, Haggard said.
