Hugo Torres, 34, of Inglewood was driving a Freightliner Truck and tractor trailer north on I-5 at about 10:45 p.m., when he came to a stop due to construction on the road.
Ghisan Omar Monsour, 28, of Oakland came up behind Torres in a Honda Civic but failed to stop and collided with the truck’s rear trailer, according to California Highway Patrol press release.
Monsour’s rate of speed and the reason he failed to stop have not yet been determined.
He sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel.
Two lanes of the northbound I-5 were closed while the collision was investigated. They were reopened again at 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision at this time and no arrests were made, the press release said; however, the investigation is ongoing.
L.A. County Coroner’s Office will notify next of kin.
