A 2015 Kia Optima driven by Carlos Sanchez Romero, 35, of Los Angeles, crossed the center divider on Highway 126 around 1:26 a.m. Sunday, and headed eastbound onto the westbound lanes at an unknown speed, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Romero’s vehicle collided head on with a 2012 Toyota Camry driven by Esmerelda Escobedo, 30, of Fillmore, and Maria Escobedo, also of Fillmore. All three were reported dead at the scene, according to officials.

All lanes of Highway 126 were closed for an investigation of the incident, but shortly before 6 a.m. all were reopened by CHP officials.

All three individuals were wearing safety equipment, according to the California Highway Patrol report. Alcohol is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash, but it has not been confirmed as a factor, officials said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by officers of the Moorpark Office for CHP. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call Officer Stroebel at 805-553-0800.
