The crash was reported at 5:45 a.m. after a vehicle driven by Yolanda Hernandez, of Santa Paula, rear-ended a scooter just east of the Los Angeles/Ventura County line in the eastbound lanes on Highway 126.
Hernandez was traveling eastbound directly behind the scooter and at a greater speed, and reportedly “failed to notice” it, according to California Highway Patrol officials.
The front of Hernandez’s vehicle struck the rear of the scooter, causing the victim to be ejected onto and over the vehicle.
The driver of the scooter sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. The identity of the victim is not being released pending next of kin notification.
CHP officials were still on scene investigating as of 7:31 a.m., and as a result, both eastbound lanes, and one westbound lane, were closed.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors at this time. The cause is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made.
Drivers are asked to avoid that route for the time being, if possible.
This is a breaking news story and more information will be added as it becomes available.
The driver of the car should be arrested. This is not right that they were driving so fast they hit the scooter. The sped limited is 60 and I drove by as saw how bad the other car looked.
