The circumstances around the crash, which was reported shortly after 6:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, are still unclear, according to the California Highway Patrol office, which is still looking at preliminary information.

The deceased, a white male, approximately in his 40s, per initial CHP reports, driving a motorcycle, was killed when his bike collided with a Ford SUV on the westbound No. 1 lane on Highway 126.

A CHP report released the name, but the officials with the Coroner’s Office have not made the identification or notification of next of kin at this time, according to the Coroner’s Office, as of 1:10 p.m.

Fire officials reported that the driver of the SUV called in the crash, with the log indicating the motorcyclist hit the SUV at a very high rate of speed. However, that information is unconfirmed at this time and still under investigation.

CHP officers reported that, based on a preliminary investigation, it appears a Yamaha motorcycle was traveling on westbound on Highway 126 in the leftmost lane when a Ford Escape was attempting to make a left turn onto the eastbound lanes from Chiquita Canyon Road. As a result, the Motorcycle and SUV collided, causing fatal injuries to the motorcycle rider.

The Coroner’s Office was called to the scene at approximately 7:24 a.m., and a SigAlert was in effect for more than two hours Tuesday morning.

Both the No. 1 westbound lane and both eastbound lanes were closed Tuesday morning while the scene was under investigation.

The identities of the drivers were not available as of the publication of this story.

This is a breaking news story and more information will be added as it becomes available.

  1. The deceased was not a white male in his 40’s he was a young man in his 20’s who had just found he was about to be become a father. Please get facts straight.

  2. Sad this was one of my best friends, daughters, fiance. She is expecting a child and now no dad. Best wishes and prayers to Dean and the family as they get through the loss.

  3. Just found out about this horrible tragedy. That is a very bad “T” crossing @ Chiquito Canyon as it ends at the 126. I was almost killed at that same exact place October of 2013…within inches. I have prayed and will continue to pray for this family. Many have spoken of the dangers of that entrance to the highway…from Val Verde area… may be safer for some to enter the 126 through the back of the Valley at the light right prior to the entrance to 405

  4. I worked with the victim. He was in his mid 20’s. Soon to be a father and he was very excited about it. He just proposed to his girl who he couldn’t stop talking about. I am so sad and have prayed that the family and “J” take care of themselves and the baby. Miss you JK…. : (
