A fatal car collision occurred on northbound Interstate 5 near Pyramid Lake, officials said Saturday night.

The crash occurred just after 10 p.m. between Vista Del Lago and Smokey Bear Road. 

A blue van overturned several times, crashed into a mountainside and burst into flames, according to a CHP report.

One person managed to escape from the vehicle but another was trapped inside and died, according to the report.

Coroner’s Office officials are trying to locate and notify the next of kin of the 75-year-old man whose city of residence is unknown, said Investigator Betsy Magdaleno of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
