Jorge Antonio Armendariz, 29, was killed when a freightliner struck his van, which was stuck on the northbound 14 in the early morning of May 31, said Investigator Rudy Molano with the Los Angeles county Coroner’s Department.

The crash, just south of Escondido Canyon Road, involved a 1996 Chevy van, driven by Armendariz, and a 2010 Freightliner.

“The victim’s van was disabled in a lane on the road for unknown reasons, when it was struck by the oncoming Freightliner,” said Officer Carroll of California Highway Patrol at the time.

CHP officials reported Armendariz was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Officers also noted drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the crash.
